Mother Earth helps a potter eke out a living, who uses its soil to make earthenware. The Potter follows the competitive strategy of Michael E. Porter- the renowned Management Guru by keeping the price of his product competitively low, deftly differentiating between his various products while keeping the focus on market requirements. 

Preparing earthenware is an art. The ‘product’ has to be identical as if it has rolled out of an assembly line, which is ensured by the potter through deft handling of the wheel. Secondly, the potter also ensures that the ‘price’ competitiveness his product so that it registers adequate sales. For sales to boom, it is equally important that the ‘product’ at the given ‘price’ reaches the correct ‘place’ i.e. the market. Last but not least the potter ‘promotes’ his product at the marketplace. He highlights the distinctive features of his wares; it is quality and strength which helps him fetch a better return. He thus presents a live example to the marketing mix of Neil Borden or E. Jerome Mc Carthy. 

The Potter is a ‘working couple’. Just like his urban compatriot, his wife supplements the household income by making cow-dung cakes. She is an entrepreneur in her own right. Together they turn the wheels of fortune and give a better tomorrow to their children. Amen!

विपक्ष की फ़्लेक्स बोर्ड वाली राजनीति (12/08/2021)

आज प्रातः सेंट्रल दिल्ली में अवस्थित कार्यालय पहुँचते हुए जंतर-मंतर के पास लगे फ़्लेक्स बोर्ड से काँग्रेस के ‘हल्ला बोल’ अभियान का पता चला, जो आजकल आंदोलन के लिए चिर-परिचित स्थान है। इस ‘हल्ला बोल’ का आह्वान काँग्रेस ने दलितों की रक्षा के लिए किया था। सामने मंच था जिसपर एयरकूलर लगे थे ताकि नेताओं का पसीना न बहे। मंच के सामने सड़क पर प्लास्टिक की कुर्सियाँ लगी थी। ऊपर तिरपाल लगा था। 10 बजे से ‘हल्ला बोल’ का कार्यक्रम’ था। चारो ओर दिल्ली पुलिस और अर्ध-सैनिक बल की टुकड़ियाँ तैनात थी। साथ ही डीटीसी की दर्जनों बसें थीं जो आंदोलनकारियों को ले जाने के लिए वहाँ पर रखी गयी थी। ठीक दस बजे कार्यक्रम शुरू हुआ और आधे दिन से भी कम समय में ही समाप्त भी हो गया। इस राष्ट्रव्यापी ‘हल्ला बोल’ की गूंज महज 200 गज़ दूर अवस्थित कार्यालयों तक भी न पहुंची।   

आज काँग्रेस की राजनीति बस इतनी सी तामझाम में ही सिमट कर रह गयी है। बात देशव्यापी आंदोलन की हो रही थी किन्तु फ़्लेक्स बोर्ड का वजूद एक चौराहे बाद ही समाप्त हो गया था- 'शहंशाहे आलम दिल्ली से पालम- की तर्ज़ पर। यह विचित्र विडम्बना है कि ब्रिटिश शासन में वर्षों जेल की सजा काटने वालों के वंशज आज बिना एयर कूलर धरना पर बैठ भी नहीं पाते। काँग्रेस की लोकप्रियता का एक चौराहे तक सिमट जाने की वजह भी यही आरामतलबी है। यह भी हकीकत है कि बरगद सा विशाल इस संगठन की जड़ों को खोदने का काम भी इसके ही नेता ने अपने स्वार्थवश किया- पहले पहल 1969 में और फिर 1980 में जब पार्टी के दो फाड़ कर दिये गए। इसी का परिणाम है कि आज काँग्रेस मृतप्रायः है। कालांतर में यदि यह नेपथ्य में चली जाये और गुमनामी के अंधेरे में खो जाये तो कोई आश्चर्य नहीं क्योंकि आज की पौध तो राजनीति करना तक भूल गयी है- आवाम को जगाना और अपने साथ लाना तो दूर की बात है। आज काँग्रेस की सारी राजनीति फ़्लेक्स बोर्ड तक सिमट कर रह गयी है। फ़्लेक्स बोर्ड वाली राजनीति और ट्विटर के भरोसे काँग्रेस में जान नहीं डाला जा सकता है। कदाचित काँग्रेस ज़मीन से कट चुकी है। यह पुनः बैठकखाने वाली काँग्रेस रह गयी है जैसा गांधीजी के आने से पहले इसका चरित्र रहा था। देश हित में एवं प्रजातांत्रिक शासन व्यवस्था में सशक्त विपक्ष का महत्वपूर्ण रोल होता है- काँग्रेस से इतनी उम्मीद तो जनमानस कर ही सकता है। अफसोस काँग्रेस इस रोल में भी असफल सिद्ध हो रही है, जैसा आज के इस धरना में दिखा।

THE CHARGE OF THE OBC BRIGADE

The 127th Constitution Amendment Bill benefits 671 castes in the country and restores the States rights to make their own list of OBCs. This was necessitated after the Supreme Court's verdict in May 2021 which said the President of India, in consultation with Governors, would specify socially and educationally backward classes, taking away the powers of the State Governments to do so. With this amendment, the powers have been restored with the State Government. 

As I walked across the Baba Bhim Rao Ambedkar Center on Janpath today, the jubilation was writ large on the felicitation ceremony scheduled for evening.

यह नन्ही सी जान और वो नन्हा सा वाइरस

                                                        सुनि ससोच कह देबि सुमित्रा। बिधि गति बड़ि बिपरीत बिचित्रा॥

जो सृजि पालइ हरइ बहोरी। बाल केलि सम बिधि मति भोरी॥

कल शाम की ही बात है। मेट्रो से सदा की भांति घर की ओर लौट रहा था जब एक युवा को छींक आ गई और वो बेसाख्ता छींक पड़ा।  हालांकि उसने नाक पर रुमाल किया किन्तु छींक की आवाज़ से मेट्रो के उस कंपार्ट्मेंट में यात्रा कर रहे यात्रियों के चेहरे दहशत से इस कदर खौफजदा हो गए जिससे सहज ही आजकल सर्वत्र ‘कोरोना’ से उपजे भय के रूप में देखा और महसूस किया जा सकता है। माल्थस ने कभी चेताया था कि जब-जब मनुष्य सृष्टि पर काबिज होने की कोशिश करेगा प्रकृति उसे उसकी औकात दिखा देगी। आजकल मानव और प्रकृति के बीच शह और मात के इस खेल की आवृति बढ़ गई है। मनुष्य प्रकृति का वो प्राणी है जिसे अपनी बुद्धि का पर बड़ा घमंड है। किन्तु आज वो अपनी इसी बुद्धि का बंदी बनकर रह गया है। आज मानव जीवन कितने ही बंधनों में जकड़ा है। बचपन में कभी यह नहीं सोचा था कि कहीं आने जाने के लिए आपकी फ्रीश्किंग की जाएगी। किन्तु आज यह रोजाना की एक सामान्य सामान्य प्रक्रिया है। आज आप कहीं भी यात्रा करें चाहे वो मेट्रो हो अथवा हवाई-जहाज़ - आपकी फ्रीश्किंग एक आवश्यक कारवाई है जिसके बिना आप कहीं ‘सुरक्षित’ यात्रा नहीं कर सकते। क्या पता कोई ‘होशियार’ मनुष्य आपके मौत का सामान लेकर यात्रा न कर रहा हो। मनुष्य वो ‘होशियार’ प्राणी है जिसने अपने विनाश के सामान ईज़ाद  करने में महारथ हासिल है। कहते हैं यह नन्हा सा वाइरस भी मानव ने ही ईजाद किया है।

यही हाल नई- नई बीमारियों के ईज़ाद करने को लेकर भी है। बचपन में हैयर-कटिंग कभी कोई मुद्दा नहीं हुआ करता था। किन्तु आजकल हैयर-कटिंग के समय यह आवश्यक है कि आप यह सुनिश्चित करें कि नाई आपके केश काटने के लिए जो ब्लेड इस्तेमाल कर रहा है वो नया है, पहले से इस्तेमाल किया हुआ नहीं। ‘एड्स’ के बाद ऐसे एहतियात हमारी जीवनशैली के अभिन्न अंग बन चुके हैं। डेंगु ने बकड़ी के दूध का महत्व समझा दिया तो इस दिल्ली में सर्वत्र व्याप्त प्रदूषण ने लोगों को मास्क पहन कर चलने पर विवश कर दिया। अब इस ‘कोरोना’ वाइरस की वजह से आधी से अधिक आबादी मास्क लगा कर चलने को बाध्य है। एक प्रदूषण ही क्या कम था जो ये ‘कोरोना’ भी जान की आफत बन प्रकट हो गया।। मेरा मानना है ये सारे वाइरस और बीमारियाँ आधुनिक जीवनशैली की देन हैं। आज के दौर में मानव जीवन की निश्छलता छिन-भिन्न हो चुकी है। और इस सब का ज़िम्मेवार वो ‘होशियार’ मानव स्वयं है जिसे इस बात का दंभ है कि प्रकृति ने समस्त जीवों में उसे और केवल उसे ही बुद्धि से नवाजा है। समस्त संसाधनों पर अनुचित नियंत्रण के ये दुष्परिणाम हैं।

अब आज स्थिति यह बन आई है कि आज का मानव समस्त जद्दोजिहद अपनी नन्ही सी जान की हिफाज़त के लिए कर रहा है ताकि उसकी सुरक्षा प्रकृति के उस नन्हें से वाइरस से की जा सके। जान है जहान है। यह संभव है कुछ महीने में वो इस वाइरस का इलाज़ ढूंढ निकाले। किन्तु इस बात की क्या गारंटी है कि तब प्रकृति कोई अन्य वाइरस लेकर डराने न आ जाए। किन्तु इस नन्ही सी जान को बचाने के लिए मनुष्य द्वारा किए जा रहे ये समस्त जद्दोजिहद तब बेमानी लगने लगते हैं जब वो इसे कभी आपसी रंजिश, तो कभी ‘धर्म’ के रक्षार्थ, तो कभी संपत्ति के लिए स्वयं ही नष्ट करने पर आमादा हो जाता है। मेरा मानना है जब मनुष्य यह करता है तो प्रकृति उसे उसकी औकात दिखाती है और विनाश के ऐसे विकराल रूप लेकर प्रकट होती है जैसा इस ‘कोरोना’ वाइरस के मामले में हो रहा है। कदाचित यह प्रकृति का हम मनुष्य को आगाह करने का तरीका है कि जिस नन्ही सी जान को समाप्त करने के पीछे वो कभी-कभी राक्षस बन जाता है उसे वो मनुष्यों से बेहतर तरीके से समाप्त कर सकता है। अतः वो कभी प्रकृति सार्वभौम सत्ता को चुनौती देने की धृष्टता न करे। वो इस नन्ही जी जान की कीमत को समझे और आपसी भाई-चारे को बनाए रखें। मानव जीवन अमोल है; इसे धर्म, जाति अथवा संपत्ति के नाम पर नष्ट करना मनुष्यता नहीं है।

LORD RAMA IN NEW DELHI! (01/03/2020)

Ayodhya Nyaas in collaboration with Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) organized a three day exhibition called the ‘AYODHYA PARV’ at the Indira Gandhi National Center of the Arts, New Delhi. The exhibition concluded on 1^st March 2020. The event was an effort to draw the significance of Ayodhya- Ayodhya is big- as the Chairman of IGNCA Sri Ram Bahadur Rai says. The pictures on display at the exhibition were made available by the Hon’ble Member of Parliament of Faizabad Sri Lallu Singh who conceived the concept of ‘Ayodhya Parv’ and is the driving force behind this exhibition. The event displayed the 148 sites associated with Lord Rama, which it claimed were identified by some English Judge Mr. Edward in 1902. But as an ordinary ‘rambhakts’ why should I vouch for such evidence by an English Judge? As an ordinary ‘rambhakt’, I depend on ‘The Ramayana’ and ‘The Ramcharitmanas’ to identify these places associated with my Lord. I need not swear by the findings of an English Judge to authenticate the existence of my Lord divine- the maryada puroshottam who is missed by a nation in present times much more than never before.

However, the event on the lawns of the IGNCA appeared more of an elite affair. The common rambhakts, who I come across during my visits to Ayodhya, was found missing. These rambhakts converge at Ayodhya in lakh to have a tryst with their lord on occasions such as Ramnavmi, the fair of Mani-parvat in August and Kartik fair in October. Their chants of ‘Jai Sri Rama’ are not a show of their strength but a display of their devotion as Lord Rama lives in their heart. They cover long distances on foot to reach Ayodhya. They carry their belongings with them and spend days together under open sky to participate in the events associated with their Lord- His birth, marriage, coronation and other such events of importance. The gap between the ruler (Lord Rama) and the ruled (the rambhakts) disappears as the ‘aatma’ merges with the ‘paramatma’. Rulers in present times need to emulate Lord Rama who makes no difference whatsoever of the social or economic background of His subjects and bestows His kindness in equal measure among all.
