THE INSANITY OF SANE JOURNALS(17/01/2014)

Social responsibility of the media seems to have been given a new definition by publication houses in New Delhi.
I now put forth an advertisement published in “The Times of India” which went as follows:
a)      Jumma Chumma de de;
b)      Choli ke peeche kyaa hai?
c)      Sexy, sexy, sexy mujhe log bole;
d)     You are my chammak challo;
e)      Tu cheez badi hai mast mast;
f)       Aajaa meri gaadi me baith jaa;
g)      Tu hai meri fantasy;
h)      Munni badnam hui darling tere liye;
Women are not item numbers;
They are not Chikni Chamelis; they are definitely not fevicol;
They have not been put up on this planet for your supreme entertainment or pleasure,
A woman is not an adjective.
If you cannot respect a woman you are nothing.
THE TIMES OF INDIA. RESPECT. WOMEN. FULL STOP.”

The Times of India seems to be conveying a positive message until one happens to read rather sees the “Delhi Times”. I will request esteemed readers to unfold the pages of “Delhi Times” which comes as a supplement with “The Times of India” everyday. You will find that the portrayal of women on the pages of “Delhi Times” is contrary to paper’s commitment to a dignified and honourable presentation of woman. Let alone advertisements depicting woman selling tyres or men vests dressed scantily, for which the paper gets paid for and for which the entire blame can be laid at the doors of company making such advertisement; even photographs chosen by the publication house with accompanying articles are so selected that these may rather rouse sensual pleasure than satisfy intellectual appetite of readers. There is very less for readers to read in “Delhi Times” supplement and much more to see. Portrayal of woman in such crude and baser manner reduces her to the level of a commodity, the very thing the newspaper appeared to be opposing through the above advertisement. The newspaper pretends to professes something and actually practices something else. Isn’t it the height of hypocrisy from a publication house which boasts to be flag ship Publication Company of India? I leave this to the judgment of readers. Watch out for this space if this interests you. I also solicit your comments. Please be frank and forthcoming in your comments.
