As general election
approaches, hoardings displaying the achievements and welfare measures
initiated by the present UPA-II regime cover the sky and high rises. Metro,
railway stations, bus stops all display such advertisement which prominently
display faces of Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi or Rajiv Gandhi after whom
these schemes have been named. A few of such schemes are given below:
1. Jawaharlal
Nehru National Urban Rehabilitation Mission (JNNURM)
2. Jawahar
Rozgar Yojana (JRY)
3. Indira
Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana (IGMSY)
4. Indira
Aawas Yojana (IAY) and if that was not enough we also have a
5. Rajiv
Aawas Yojana (RAY)
6. Rajiv
Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls.(RGEAG)
7. Rajiv
Gandhi Khel Ratna Award ( though the other three important sports awards viz
the Arjuna Awards, Dronacharya Awards and the Dhyan Chand Award are named after
sports personalities)
8. Rajiv
Gandhi Khel Abhiyaan (RGKY)
9. Rajiv
Gandhi Equity Savings Scheme (RGESS)
Even Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi must be squirming in their graves at this blatant sycophancy of their progenies, I guess. This is a classic case of overkill which, I am afraid, may prove suicidal for the Congress in the forthcoming elections
